In his inauguration speech President Biden offered us hope – tempered by realism. We are facing daunting challenges on multiple fronts: a pandemic, a climate crisis, the deep fractures in our civil society.
“Any one of these would be enough to challenge us in profound ways. But the fact is we face them all at once, presenting this nation with the gravest of responsibilities. Now we must step up. All of us. It is a time for boldness, for there is so much to do.” – President Joe Biden.
We must turn our focus and energy to healing, and our environment is in dire need of bold action to heal. We have to move swiftly and decisively to ensure our planet can continue nurture and sustain all species, including our own, and that means tackling plastic pollution head on.
Every part of the plastic life cycle is a threat to a healthy environment. From the fracked gas that kicks off production – and emits greenhouse gasses – right through to our inadequate recycling and disposal – creating mountains of toxic waste – plastics are poisoning our world, water, food and bodies.
We now have an opportunity to address plastic pollution not just on a personal level, but on national and international levels. Bucks Audubon is proud to participate in today’s #PlasticFreePresident Day of Action.
